Frequently Asked Questions

We know parents, kids, educators and youth leaders have important questions before enrolling. Here are answers to the most common ones.

What age group or grade levels is this course designed for?

Our online public speaking course for kids is designed for students in grades 4–12. The lessons adapt to both beginners and advanced learners, making it an ideal fit for elementary, middle school, and high school students who want to build strong communication and leadership skills.

Do students need prior public speaking experience?

No prior experience is required. This course was designed as Public Speaking 101 for kids, covering the basics of content, structure, and delivery. Beginners gain confidence step by step, while more experienced students refine their skills with advanced tips.

What is included in the course?

Each enrollment includes: • Step-by-step video lessons teaching kids how to write and deliver speeches • Training in the three pillars of public speaking: content, structure, and delivery • A student workbook with assignments and exercises • Downloadable lesson materials (PDFs, prep timeline, practice worksheets) • Three flexible learning pathways: Complete Lesson Plan, Quick Start Method, or Topic Library • (For classrooms/youth groups) access to our Instructor Handbook with group activities via the Enterprise Plan • One Certification submission with expert feedback and evaluation

How long does it take to complete the course?

The course is self-paced and flexible. With the Quick Start Method, students can complete it in as little as 10 days. The Complete Lesson Plan spreads material over 6 structured lessons, making it easy to complete over a few weeks or even a semester—perfect for classroom instruction or homeschool programs.

How does certification work and does it really matter?

Yes—certification matters, and most other kids' public speaking courses don't offer it. Students submit a video presentation for expert evaluation and receive personalized feedback. Those who pass earn a Public Speaking Certificate, a valuable credential for school projects, college applications, leadership roles, and resumes.

Is the course completely online and do students ever Zoom with an instructor or group?

Yes, this is a 100% online public speaking course. Students never need to attend live Zoom sessions or in-person classes, making it convenient and flexible. All lessons, assignments, and practice materials are available on demand. For group or classroom use, the Enterprise Plan includes an Instructor Handbook with fun group activities that encourage participation.

Do I have to purchase the course for each child in my household?

One purchase = one household login. All children in the family can access the course. However, enrollment includes only one certification submission. Families can purchase additional submissions for siblings at a discounted rate.

Can I teach a group of kids for one price?

No. Teaching groups outside of your household requires our Enterprise Plan. This option includes bulk pricing, teaching resources, and the Instructor Handbook, making it easy for classroom, after-school program, or youth group instruction.

Can educators or youth leaders use this course in a classroom or group setting?

Yes! Our Enterprise Plan for educators is designed for schools, homeschool co-ops, after-school programs, and youth organizations. It includes discounted group enrollment, access to the Instructor Handbook, and ready-to-use lesson plans. As an independent study assignment, it's also a great way for students to earn extra credit through our certification program with our team providing the grading for you.

Is this course good for homeschooling?

Absolutely. This is a complete public speaking and speech writing curriculum for homeschoolers. With structured lesson plans, assignments, and fun practice exercises, kids learn in a way that's engaging for the whole family. Parents also love that our certification program provides outside evaluation and grading, saving homeschool parents valuable time.

What makes this course different from other public speaking programs?

Here's what sets our program apart: • Certification included (rare in other kids' speech programs) • Step-by-step video lessons covering content, structure, and delivery • Flexible learning paths (full curriculum, Quick Start, or topic library) • Student + educator resources, including workbooks and Instructor Handbook • Affordable pricing compared to tutors ($75–$150/hr) or speech camps ($1,000+) In short, it's an affordable, ready-to-use public speaking course for kids that builds confidence, leadership, and lifelong communication skills while giving parents and educators a curriculum they can trust.

Where do I submit my speech and script for certification?

All submission instructions and requirements are provided in the Course section of your student dashboard. You'll find detailed information about what to submit and how to submit it there. An authorized adult (18+) must submit on behalf of students in compliance with COPPA regulations.

Is this course good for debate, mock trial, and MUN kids?

Yes, as an excellent introduction to the basics of speech writing and delivery skills. Debate skills and strategies are not included in the KidTalks program (yet). 😁
